     At Hippo we rejoice in all sorts of fun projects brought in by employees and customers alike.  In the past we've wired a blender into a table lamp, made door knobs into coat hooks, and searched for oven cord to finish a young girl's science project.  We believe in supporting individuals and helping each person achieve whatever goals they've set for themselves.  Hippo Hardware contains four major departments:  Lighting, Plumbing, Hardware, and Architecture.  Also sprinkled about the store we have many things like antique coffee grinders, old picture frames, vases, and car repair manuals.  We do have a UL certified lighting shop to wire any purchases you make or to repair a light you already own.  All lighting is available in custom lengths and many finishes.  Below is a brief sampling of items you can expect to find in each department.

Who We Are      

Founded by Steven Miller and Stephen Oppenheim, Hippo Hardware has become a mecca for creative, energetic and intelligent people.  This website is meant to contain a sampling of what we offer in our giant three-story building.  Our focus is on hardware, lighting, plumbing, and architecture from the 1850s-1960s. We also have a wide variety of everything from antique tools to clocks to furniture to rubber ducks.  We offer a wide variety of new and reproduction hardware, plumbing, and lighting.  You can think of it as a fancy junk store or a messy antique store.  We are also an excellent source of information.  If you're looking for a hard to find hardware pattern or can't find the match to your gas shade, we would be happy to tell you if we've seen it recently or if we have it sitting on a back shelf somewhere.  The spirit of Hippo Hardware is to rejoice in the individual, the unique, and the original.

Plumbing Department
In this department we offer new and antique claw foot bathtubs, faucets, sinks, toilets, hot/cold turns, toothbrush holders, valves, pressure balances, drain overflows, towel bars, and tumbler holders.  If there is a particular item you are looking for, please send us an email and we'd be happy to tell you if we can find it.

Lighting Department

Our lighting department has an incredibly wide selection of antique and new chandeliers, ceiling fixtures, sconces, shades, table lamps, floor lamps, and parts.  We're happy to try and match a pattern if you have a broken piece of glass.  Our department is highly customizable and keenly attuned to creating or finding something to fit our customers desires.

Lighting Shop
Our lighting shop is UL certified which means any electrician can hang our work.  We sell all our fixtures with the option of rewiring/refinishing and we also take in repair work.  All rewiring/refinishing will be issued a quote for estimated cost.  Our staff can easily help you find the finish, color, length, and specialty details that will transform a nice lighting fixture into the perfect thing.

Hardware Department
Our hardware department has an excellent eye for details and can help match Victorian hardware patterns, fix a funky mortise lock, or search our new replacement parts.  We have a wide variety of new hardware as well as a huge selection of used ranging from the 1800s until the 1970s.  If you are only interested in looking at antique hardware, please use the search function and look for "antique".

Architecture Department
The entire bottom floor of our 30,000 sq ft. building is dedicated to arctitural pieces - doors, molding, windows, decorative carvings.  Larger items are a bit tricky to ship but if we can find the perfect thing it can certainly be arranged.  We do welcome you to stop by if you're in the area and see our massive collection for yourself.
